LT1000 Kohler engine, no start. No spark reasons?

LT 1000 ran last year. Gave it a rinse last week, OK, power rinse as it had accumulated crud. Gave it a battery charge and it will not start. Tried starter fluid, does not even try to fire.

Kohler 16 OHV engine.

Removed the plug and with a ground wire attached to the threads and the engine, see no spark at all while cranking.

Schematic shows only "ignition unit" but not much else involved. Pretty sure it is a "magneto" type but not sure.

First check air filter condition. With hood raised blow off everything especially electrical with leaf blower, give her a try. Pick up a spray can of CRC Electrical Cleaner & spray all connections taking your time.

Air Filter can cause no spark?

Please post the model and spec number for the engine so we can figure out the type of ignition system you have. Also you can try this. Remove the shroud, plastic cover, and take the kill wire off the magneto. Check for spark. If no spark the coil is probably bad, unless you have one of the new EFI ignition systems.

I looked up the part number from the owners manual and it appears to be a magneto type.

I would be spraying WD-40 since you power washed the sucker down. Spray all the electrical connectors.

Not recommended to power wash a mower. Use a leaf blower, shop air or a cheap paint brush.
