LT 1000 just stopped

I am new to the forum. I have a LT1000. Model 917.272066. All worked fine up to today. I started the mower, engaged the blade, went to disengage the blade and it was like some turned the key off. Now I have nothing. Battery is fine, motor turns over by jumping solenoid, replaced ignition switch, replaced OP Relays and checked all interlock switches with continuity check. Still nothing at the key. I noticed that the fuse was blown. I put in a new fuse, turn key to head light position (1st position) and fuse blows. Disconnect head lights and fuse still blows. Disconnect the electrical connector going to the motor and fuse does not blow.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hate to say this, but time to get out the multi meter and go hunting.

Electrical* problems can be very easy or very difficult, depending on things.
1. *How well you understand basic electricity.
2. *What tools you have and know how
3. *You don't overlook or assume anything and verify everything.

First you must disconnect the negative side of the battery.

Connect one end of the meter to a good battery ground. Set the meter to ohms. Now you must test every connector until you find the wire which is shorted to ground. This may take a long time or you find it in five minutes. Time and patience are your friends in this process. I would start with the plug on the starter motor, remember you must test in both directions? Number 3 is the step you must always keep in mind. Go slow and good luck.

Thanks for the quick response Rivets.... What all does the fuse control?
I'll get to "Hunting" in the am.

Thanks again

On most tractors the fuse is part of the starting circuit.

On this craftsman the fuse is in line to the power for the key switch.

There are two places that have been rubbing the wires on this mower

First is under the key switch there is a clip the holds the wires to the frame.

Second is where the wires come out from under the engine shroud

(( cowboy up and get over it ))

Thanks Folks..... Im up and running. I found a bare wire under the solenoid that was grounding out on the frame. Insulated all the wire and zip tied.
A Volt Meter and a auto reset 25amp fuse is a Beautiful Thing.......Thanks Again.....

Re: LT 1000 Clutch Adjustment

Hi Guys... Thanks again for the help on the starting issue. Now that Im up and running, Can anyone direct me to instructions on how to adjust the clutch / Transmission. When the clutch petal is released, I have a high speed on the transmission, a medium speed but cant go to a slow speed on the transmission.

Thanks again. This mower is for my sister... She thanks you too.....
