What do you pros use on the bolts to keep them tight?
My starter on the TEcumseh 10hp almost fell off. The
right side bolts are hard to get a wrench on and they have
star washers.
Thanks,
LB

Use the red thread locker. The blue is worthless.

I guess I can't disagree more. The red works too well and some times needs heat to loosen. I have had very good luck with the blue. Are you cleaning your threads very well before using? We are talking about Locktite aren't we? Or are you talking about a different brand?

Star washers are marginal devices. Hard to believe a manufacturer would use these instead of heat treated bolts which can be tightened properly. Did the machine come with star washers?

It may have. they look like it. I will use blue LOCTITE. I may need to get them off sometime.
this is the starter after all.

Smart move but as I said just make sure the threads are clean. I clean the bolts with a wire brush and then degrease everything with brake clean. Nothing wrong with the red LOCTITE if it doesn't have to come apart again.

Yea star washers are junk. Manufacturers use them because they are cheap especially in mass quantities. Its all about the profit margin no matter the manufacturer. (hence use of pot-metal, thinnest sheetmetal available, and chinsey drive components).

but anyways yea taking off the star washers and either using a standard split washer (lockwasher) and or blue locktite will do the trick.
