Looking to buy new mower that doesn't spew clippings on deck & motor

Hi all--new to the forums here,just joined.
Haven't had too much luck this year buying a new mulching mower. My yard is about 70 x 100 so a run of the mill push mower works fine for me.
Bought a low end Craftsman for around 200 and when I started it up clippings were shooting on to the engine from a gap where the back spring loaded
door hinges to the deck. And this was just from pushing it about 20 feet across a yard that didn't even need cutting. Other than that I liked the mower,was
light and easy to maneuver with the big back wheels. I was just imagining how much dirt would get blown onto the engine in summer when the ground is
dry from no rain and it's mostly the weeds that need cutting.
So I took it back and I noticed a mower they were selling for $70 more had the same gap. There was one there for around 400 that didn't have the gap.
So I ordered a Lawn Boy #10730 from HD for around 240. Brought it home today and after starting it up noticed that this mower was blowing clippings and dirt
from around the right front wheel. After cutting my lawn which wasn't really dried out and just consisted of spot mowing the areas where clumps of grass are starting
to grow the engine and deck had a fine coating of dirt on it. I only ran it for about 15 or 20 minutes.
My 10 year old low end Craftsman mower never had this problem. Only time it would kick up dirt is if the lawn was really dried out and even then it wasn't shooting out,just
clouds of dirt coming from around the bottom area and you ended up walking through it. The only reason I'm replacing it is it won't run. Go to start it and it runs for 2 seconds
then shuts off.
Anyone have any recommendations on a mower that will keep the clippings and dirt underneath the deck where they belong? Looking at the Lawn Boy it looks
like the blade is almost even with where the bottom edge of the deck is where as with my old mower the blade seems to set higher up,don't know if that has anything to
do with it.
I'm thinking about trying one from Lowes,I think it's a Troybuilt. At this point I'm almost ready to make my old one to a repair shop and see if it can be fixed.
Hoping that all the new mowers don't spew the clippings up like this so I'm open to suggestions.

By the very nature of how they work, all mulching mowers will throw up a lot of dirt & clippings.
PArticularly if they are cutting too low 2" minimum grass height for mulching.
I do not know what is available in the the USA but look for one with a big cutting disc and swing back blades.

If you like the way your 10 year old craftsman mows then I would spend the money to repair, or replace the engine. It sounds like you already own the mower you want. It just needs a little tlc

I wouldn't waste my money on a Troybilt mower from lowes because it will do the same thing. If you buy a mower from HD instead of a dealer you need to go with the Honda mower, it would do what you're looking for the best in the Price range of the 400$

I'll have to go to a repair shop and see how much it is to fix existing mower,the deck is still in good shape. If it's not cost feasible then I might try the Troybuilt and if that has the same
problem guess I'll have to go to the local Honda dealer. Thanks for the info everybody.
