Looking to buy first Zero Turn for 3 acres

Just bought new house with 3 acres of flat lawn. I realize that commercial ZTRs are the way to go, but they are about $3,000 out of reach. Veering toward the Exmark Pioneer 60" with Kohler. $500 instant rebate and extended warranty. The dealer close to my house has a great reputation. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm new to the whole lawn mower/zero turn thing. My limit is $7,000, the pioneer after instant rebate will be $6,779, an even 7 with mulch kit attached. Thanks!

Hi Scott. Kohler Courage has problems? I think there is a Kawasaki option with the Pioneer.

Aha! Thanks so much for the advice. Question: what is the cutting width of your exmark?

Wow! Sounds like a beast. My lot is even and there are only 3-4 trees, but close to the garden/pool area there are some small shrubs and plants. I hope the 60" will not be too wide to get around or between them

it is a total beast i wish i had a 60 insted of the 72 two dealers had one each and the 60 was 1500 more then the 72 and the 72 had 500 less hours so i went with it but you need to go out and measure to see if it will fit and how much clearance you will have remember the cut is 60" but the deck is going to be a few inches bigger

also if your getting it from a dealer and im sure you are ask him if you can have him drop it off so you can try it out im sure he will if he wants to make a sale most of them will that way you can see if it will fit what you need

That's a good point, the mower is wider than the cutting width. Yes, 72" is a lot. How much grass do you cut and how long does it take you in that beast you've got? Dealer said the 60" would cut 2.5 acres in 45 mins.

Another good point! I'm gonna call him later and ask if he can bring it to my house and I'll give it a go, see if it fits. I wonder if he will do it.

my yard isnt very smooth so i cut slower then it will go besides i like to be riding it anyway but i cut 2.5 acres and i can do it in 45 mins with no problem but i take my time and it takes me about a hour and 15 but like i said my yard is ruff so its hard on me and the mower if i run to fast i do cut the soccer fields up the road from me its 4 acres i mow it in just under 2 hours

most of the dealers will let you try them if they know your interested but want to see how it works and will work for what you need i test mowed with 4 diffrent mowers before i decided on the Exmark

And what made you pick the Exmark? What made it stand out after test riding the other 3 and it?

Well Scott, I appreciate your help and advice. I was gonna go for a smaller cutting deck but the dealer recommended the 60" and he's probably right, if it fits between the few shrubs and plants I have etc. apart from Dixie and maybe J Deere, Exmark seems to be the most loved brand by owners. My friend has had a Lazer Z for eight years and loves it.

Is there a Kubota dealer close by? They make a great mower and some of their smaller zero turns will work for your price range. Not sure about now but many times they will finance 0 down and 0 interest as well.

THanks for the info. Yes, there is a Kubota dealer within 6 miles of me. I walked in there once to get some Stihl accessories and I was like Oh my God!! Those things are beautiful!
