looking to buy 48-52" zero turn, please help me decide between a few

new member here looking to buy a 48-52" zero turn in the very near future. Wife and i are building a house soon with a 1.5 acre lot. After all my research i keep on going back to the scag freedom z 52" with kawi engine. Also considering exmark, dealer right around the corner from me sells them and has the quest 50" with kawi engine for $4k. Like the exmark, but not sure just yet, can't find too many reviews on the quest. Don't really need an all around heavy duty commercial mower, just for mowing the 1.5 acre lawn, but definitely want something heavy duty enough that will last for years. Really stuck on scag or exmark, so please let me know your opinions

It would be hard to go wrog with the Scag. Look at a Kubota Kommander also. Everybody has a preference based on some experience either they or somebody they knew had. Scag and Kubota are as good as it gets.

Welcome to the Forum!..hemi.. I prefer the 52" cut but if you plan on putting up fence, and gates, etc the 48" might be the better choice. Its only 4" difference but when you get in a tight spot the 48" will help out. I have never owned a Scag but my neighbor has one, and it seems to be a really good well built machine.

Scags are quality machines as are the Ex-marks. In addition to the Kommander I would recommend you check out a Gravely, Hustler, Toro Titan, Cub Cadet Z-Force and Big Dog if you have any of those dealers nearby. There are a WHOLE LOT of good ZTR's out there to choose from.

Having worked on all the models listed so far I would recommend the Kubota Kommander or any of the Toros.

In our area the Kubota Kommanders are selling like crazy. Our dealer had a bunch of them and sold out and I saw a stack of hem on another truck that was uploading yesterday.

Scags are quality machines as are the Ex-marks. In addition to the Kommander I would recommend you check out a Gravely, Hustler, Toro Titan, Cub Cadet Z-Force and Big Dog if you have any of those dealers nearby. There are a WHOLE LOT of good ZTR's out there to choose from.

Well looks like so far your thread is only attracting the Kubota fans versus the Gravely fans:0)
I would suggest you spend some time reading the brand-specific forum threads and get a variety of owner comments for several of the brands there. That's how I started back late last summer when I began shopping.

Actually, I can't argue with the Scag and Ex-Mark ZTR's you stated you were initially interested in. They are, after all, two of the more expensive ZTR brands on the market.

I'd highly recommend buying the dealer and location of the dealer as much as the machine. I just went through an exhaustive search all these machines are close.
I had two preferences one it had to be 48" more to fit my shed than anything else. The other was a Kawasaki engine. I drove Kubota Kommander , Freedom Z, Exmark Pioneer e-s series, Gravely pro turn , ZT/HD , Toro.....

Kubota didn't have kawi engines and free floating decks but they are gorgeous and very ergonomic. Recalls didn't overly sway me.
Gravely the dealer for me blew the sale. long story -
Exmark probably the most comfy one and best deck welded seams but smaller and lower end trannies. Same dealer as the Gravely-
Scag w/kawi engine seemed under powered @18 hp. Not sure it is but it factored in....
Toro I liked too, don't leave'em out.
Hustler Fastrak had the 22hp kawi , best dealer and imo best for me. SuperDuty was overkill ...for my 1.5 acre lot. Highest price on the final contestants but the it came back to the engine. I can always replace the seat and make the rops fold down or take it off. My shed won't allow it unless it folds. -plus they had the BEST brochures!

the dealer location and how long they have been in business ....mattered. The machines are hair splitting. There are plenty more too. Do a DEALER SEARCH also they are having rebates on some right now - that might sway you.
