Looking for some help with a deck spindle

I'm looking for some guidance on how to take this type spindle apart to replace the bearings. Deck spindle from a Craftsman 917.287.460 lawn tractor. Pulley is welded to the shaft, so I assume the blade flange has to come off. No sign of a roll pin or other keeper. Just trying to keep the thing going. Thank you.

May want to recheck model number That number comes back to using this spindle 1792436271317.png

Model number is correct. It's an older machine. Probably late 80's or early 90's. Maybe they changed the spindle since then.

What's on the other end of that shaft? If you remove what's left of that bolt, can it come apart there?

Sad that someone welded the pulley. These come apart from the top after the nut and pulley are removed. Cutting that weld will likely destroy the top of the shaft along with the pulley. You might get lucky by drilling 1/8" holes partially through the weld and break it free, but it will have to be rewelded once the bearings are replaced. That is hours of work.

I suggest you replace the spindle along with the pulley and new hardware. Check on eBay for an 8-TEN brand deck rebuild kit, it will come with everything you need. On occasion a single spindle can be found with all of the hardware and top pulley w/nut.

EDIT: I forgot about the roper style spindles with the welded pulley because I have not seen them in a very long time. I was suspicious because that does not look like a typical DIY weld.

That OP spindle looks like the old style used on some Roper models. Those were a non serviceable welded pulley, welded blade mount from the factory.

Nope you don't take version apart.

And they in 2-1/4 and 2-1/2 blade mounts if I remember correctly.

So, it seems like the answer is that it's junk. I'll see about a new spindle.
