Looking for Crank/Rod Replace Advice

My Horse has a 7HP Kohler, K161T, spec. 281271J, S/N 10236854. The conn. rod "disintegrated". I've been told to replace the crankshaft as well. I think I've tracked down the right p/n's. Crank is 234815. Rod is either 230039-10 for the .010 oversize rod, or 230039 for the standard rod.

How do I know which rod to order?

I also plan to replace all gaskets and seals. Anything else I should do while its' all torn apart?

Go ahead and help me spend my money as long as I get it right, and she runs good and reliably when done.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Did you order the standard size or a reground crank?.. :smile:KennyV

I haven't ordered any crank yet. All I have is the p/n for it. based on big end diam. numbers and crank pin diam. from here (Kohler K-Series & Magnum - Single Cylinder Engine Specifications, Tolerances | Torque Values and Sequences for Fasteners) it seems like the std rod is correct. If so why is there an oversize option (other than to confuse me).

If you had damaged your crank and had it turned to clean it up... you would then need the oversize rod...

If crank was turned it would be smaller not larger? wouldn't that necessitate an undersize rod?

Regardless, if I order a new crank, the standard rod should work then, right?

What else should I consider doing while I have it all torn apart?

Appreciate your help!
