Lawnboy Model Number 6261 Fuel/Oil Mix

Hello Friends,

I have a 1983 Lawnboy Model Number 6261. I've had it for years but never ran it as I have a few other mowers. It has about zero time on it.
A curious thing is - there's a sticker on the engine that says "If other oils besides Lawn Boy oil are used - 8oz. oil in 1 gallon of gas".
That comes out to 16/1. But on the gas cap it says 32/1.
I use Pennzoil air cooled 2 cycle oil. Which dilution would you use?

I don't know anything about that engine, but 16/1 seems very heavy on the oil. I am used to 40 or 50 to one. Hopefully someone will speak up...
 
About 10 years ago I’ve switched my 2-cycle engines and those I repair to Opti-2 2-cycle oil. It can be used in all 2-cycle engines with ratios from 16/1 to 50/1. Since doing this I no longer have multiple different fuel cans and I’ve also never hada failure.
 
If this is the DuraForce engine, below is from LawnBoys web page FAQ at Archive.org about 2000. If you still have the manual it should be in there. If not, Ebay has them for sale as low as $7.

Q: What about oil needs? How do the needs of this engine compare to those of a four-cycle engine?
A: "The oil mixing ratio is 32:1, what customers expect and are used to. The oil consumption is about the same as a conventional side-valve four-stroke – without the mess of oil changes and related oil disposal, or the trip to the dealer for the oil change."
 
I have used 25/1 for many years without a problem , had a few experts tell me I would be working in a smoke cloud , they were WRONG
Just have a look at the small quantity of oil involved and think about how could it lubricate some 2 stroke running at 12000 rpm
Thats why 25/1 is my go to
