I have the subject mower and now when I try to start it the rope just pulls out without engaging the engine. It will grab once in a while. I suspect the recoil is going. Anyways the part # on Partstree shows as 95-1868 but is discontinued. I do however have 3 other used 10525 recoils but the part number on all 3 shrouds shows as 98-1396. I have not taken mine apart yet to see if it matches. I cannot find the 98-1396 anywhere on google. Does anyone know what 98-1396 is? Is it the shroud only and not the recoil mechanism?

Have already been on parts tree and parts house . It only shows the part number I'm looking for as the whole engine.....interesting that the number is labeled on the recoil housing. Since the actual recoil part is the same for 1998/1999 model years I'm pretty confident I have the correct replacement from my collection of 10525 spares.

Well that was a self learning experience. Out of 4 recoils in my stock pile....2 were toast...of the other 2 one had metal wings that pop out when you pull the cord and the other was plastic which I can only assume was a knock off. Anyways it will be interesting to see what is on my back up 10525 that I bought second hand. Its great to have spare parts. PS - my one owner 10525 from 1999 has never had a pull cord issue. Hmmmmmm.

Hello,
I looked up your model on the toro master parts list web page and it says the recoil assembly is part no. 99-6713.
They are all discontinued. I needed one last year and couldn't find one. Then one appeared on ebay 2 or 3 months later.
There might be superceeded numbers that are different. Like 95-1868. As far as I know the same recoil will fit all duraforce mowers.
Just drill out the four rivets and swap out the recoil from another mower if you have a parts mower. If you do deep google search you may be
able to find one. If you know any different duraforce model numbers beside 10525, look on this sight for different part numbers.
Regards
Jerry
