I just recently purchased this LB, and only used it twice. Seemed cut very good. HOWEVER, today when mowing the grass, smoke (lots of it) came out of the muffler, and it stopped running. Is the piston causing the problem? Thanks.

If you purchased new, I would return mower. If you purchased mower used post all numbers from mower and engine.

This is an older Lawnboy, Model 19335, made in 2000. It is a 4 cycle, tecumseh engine LEV120. I tried starting it again hours after it stopped, and it appears very low compression. I suspect piston and ring, and fixing this over my head and may be too much expense to get a dealer to do it. Thanks.

It's sounds very much like the oil piston ring has let go which would give you all the smoke in the exhaust.
New set of rings for this engine would be about $25.

Many thanks for the help. This may be over my head, however, and I am going to think about it some before doing anything.
Thanks again.

that techunseh motor eats oil.I have to add oil every time I mow I have seen them run with no oil reading on the stick also cheap 10w30 will slip by the rings and smoke.before you tear it down try some straight 30w good oil and see what happens
