Well,,,after searching for over a year, I finally found a commercial Lawn-Boy worth buying. Most were used commercially and really beat. It's a 8481ae with electric start, self propelled. I would have preferred a Duraforce commercial, but couldn't find one locally. Only runs for a few minutes, I suspect a dirty carb or possibly bad crankcase seals.

Turned out to be a very simple fix, the fuel line had a blockage. Pushed a plastic rod through it to clear, now it runs like a top. After using Gunk engine degreaser, now it looks nearly new.

I have a suburban model 8480. It isnt electric start, but is self propelled, commercial engine, etc.... I got mine from a friend who scraps, was sitting out in their scrap pile. Excellent condition, had all decals and paint, no cracks in deck, starts and runs like a top. Would've cried to have seen it thrown away. I use it weekly to mow around an acre. I have the rear discharge chute and that helps because i don't have the mulching setup. This is by far the best lawn mower I have ever owned! We have a new honda mower with the fancy plastic deck and a 6 horse motor and it cannot compete with my Lawn Boy. This mower will destroy foot tall grass without bogging down!! It will also mow about one acre without refueling because it has the gallon tank on it. So far havent had to replace any parts, but i work at a mower repair shop and can get any parts i need for many different old Lawn Boys for free, so it works out well. I looked up an old ad from 1986, and found out this mower cost $650.00 new!!! Hold on and take good care of your mower. They will last, but be careful where you mow if it has an aluminum deck, you DONT want to crack them!! Thanks for sharing...
