lb5274 001.jpglb5274 002.jpglb5274 003.jpgPicked up a Lawn Boy 5274 this weekend for 10.00 Took it home and cleaned the very dirty carb put it back together started third pull and ran great.only issue is the hi lo lever wont stay in place. what is the fix for that? and the wheels are wobbly.are new sleeves available?
 
That's a beautiful little mower. The decals look nice. I think $10 was a steal.

Can I ask what part of the state are you from?

The high-low lever relies on friction to stay put. You should look for some screw underneath that applies pressure on the shaft. The wheels are really not repairable. You can get nice new wheels that look appropriate but not exact. Depends on if you want to use it, or display it. For use, nice ball-bearing wheels would be good. Most hardware stores sell them. You need the "offset" axle type.
 
I am from Madison but had to go to Janesville for this one but have been known to travel farther. i have yet to pull the spark plug on this one.thanks Phototone I will check it out and I am going to try to press out the sleeve on a wheel and see if it can be done.
 
The Plastic wheels as shown in the photos of your mower, DO NOT HAVE any sleeves, the plastic runs directly on the axle bolts.
 
Great mower. For ten bucks? Amazing.

My LB L21ZSM is on its last legs compression wise. I suspect the person(s) that had it before me ran it too lean. It never had good compression since I purchased it, and finally it is too low to run. While I'm at replacing the rings, I'll change the reed valves and crank seals and be done with it for a few years. Still love the mower. Had to push the snapper today and it weighs about 4 times what the lawnboy does.

The worn out plastic wheels can be bored out and bronze oilite bushings installed. Then just grease or oil the axel bolts once in awhile.

I guess this is true for every plastic wheel. I have found older Lawnboy wheels generally have seen heavy service and have other issues like cracks and sometimes lost tread, which makes them not worth fussing with. If you have good wheels, then boring out and putting in sleeves would work, but weigh that against the cost of replacement wheels.
