Hi all,

I have a 9yo JD L111. The Briggs and Stratton (Family: 5bsxs.7242vf model: 406577 type: 0139 E1 code: 040903YG) threw a rod on cylinder #2 and I'm wondering if a locally offered 16HP Kohler Vertical Shaft engine is a viable bolt-in replacement? Link to the craiglist ad: JOHN DEERE 16HP Kohler Vertical Shaft Motor

If this is a possibility, any advice to making sure it will be a good purchase?

I'm in the process of tearing down the Intek engine, and am about to split the cases; but if I can just get her running with this engine it's probably cheaper and definately a quicker option.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Additional question; If the output shaft matches, will any B&S engine work if I'm willing to mess with wiring? For example, no longer available on Amazon, but would a Briggs & Stratton single cylinder such as the 331877-0036-G1 540cc 21.0 Gross HP Intek Engine with 1-Inch x 3-5/32-Inch Length Crankshaft Tapped 7/16-20 ( Amazon.com: Briggs & Stratton 331877-0036-G1 540cc 21.0 Gross HP Intek Engine with 1-Inch x 3-5/32-Inch Length Crankshaft Tapped 7/16-20: Patio, Lawn & Garden ) work?

You can use any engine you want does not even have to be a Briggs. You have about a 5% chance of finding one that will not bolt right on. Or that the shaft is not the same size.

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))
