Kubota Z125skh PTO won't engage

the PTO on my mower wont engage. I have replaced the switch, I have tested the PTO clutch it is good. All fuses are good and all ground connections seem to be good. everything else works fine. It will start. run and drive.
 
Do you have a wiring diagram for it? If so you might consider posting it. Also, post the serial on the unit in case the PTO wiring or parts are serial number sensitive, which many mowers are. How long have you owned it, when did the problem start? Is that a result of hitting something, over wintering etc..

How did you test the PTO clutch? Make sure your battery is charged and strong and has been load tested. First item you check besides the PTO switch on a PTO issue is the battery.

That clutch pull a lot of amperage , takes a good battery to engage it
3-5 amperage is normal with 7 amps max so that is not a huge amount. The fuel solenoid pulls over 2 amps. BTW I have seen PTO clutches to pull over 15amps and still work; although, are melting down the harness.

Now that apparently you applied 12v to the clutch to test do you have a multi-meter to test to see if 12v is at the PTO wire connector?

One side of the connector is 12V when the PTO (with the ignition switch on) is on normally and the other side is ground.

  1. First test across both terminals. Is 12v present? If so then it is a PTO clutch problem or bad battery issue. Hence a load test of the battery is need to rule it out.
  2. Then check each side to see if 12v is present with the other lead on the unpainted frame. If no 12v on either lead then there is a problem in the PTO circuit.
  3. If 12v is present then switch the leads to where one is on the battery + terminal. Do you have 12v at the connector? Test both sides as the 12v would to the other side. If not then you have a grounding issue.
 
Just worked on one that had a bad battery and would not engage the clutch, new battery solved the problem but good information to file away anyway
 
I have battery voltage on both sides of the PTO clutch and have tested each safety switch and the two relays ...today I disconnected the ignition switch wiring...when I reconnected the wiring I started the mower and the PTO clutch engaged and ran approximately 30 seconds, Apparently I have a loose connection some where but I am at a loss what to check next any Ideas would be great
 
There are only 2 wires that run to the clutch , I would guess they leave the ignition switch and go through a relay then to the clutch , they should be color coded so start at the switch and see where it leads you. You should only have voltage on one of the wires at the clutch when engaged , the other wire is a ground

Trace the ground circuit side of the PTO wiring because if you have 12v on both sides of the plug while it is plugged into the PTO clutch then there is a lost of the ground side.

With the connector unplugged you should never have 12v on both sides.

The reason you can have 12v on both sides of PTO connector with it plugged in is because the meter or test light does not load the circuit enough to activate the PTO coil resistance. So it is mostly a loose or corroded ground terminal on the frame.
