Friend that works at local Toro Dealer says several Toro Timecutters are coming back in with Blown up Kohler V-twin Engines on them, these are Brand new machines with under 15 hours on them. WTH ?

Kohler is just sending out New replacement engines out. Anyone know why this is happening ?

It has been said hear that the Kohler 7000 series has a casting issue with a few engines. I do not know if it is true or not.

Thank U for the reply, my neighbor just got one w/Kohler, but only has about maybe 3 mows on it (under 3 hours).

I'm not sure what Series engine it is, but 22 hp V-twin vertical shaft. They haven't had time to tear one open yet to see if they can spot the issue.

Casting issue could be it, maybe blocking an oil port or something. Not good.

That sucks, but at least Kohler is stepping up and taking care of the problem.

I think that would be a KT725, series 7000. I just bought a new lawn tractor last week with that engine. If it is going to self destruct I hope it does so while still under warranty.

I think you are right, my friend made a mistake, it is the bigger Toro Titans that have the Kohler horizantal shaft motors that they are seeing some problems with.

But Kohler is just replacing them..

Sad but true,

Manufactures use their costumers for a test base now a days.

No more R&D.

I have a time cutter ss5000 with the Kohler Kt730 23 hp motor that had started leaking oil at the Valve cover or the head. It is till under warranty so I took it into a shop close to me (76 miles close) and they did a silicone repair on the valve cover. It only that lasted 20 minutes are far as I can see and is leaking again after I mowed what little bit of lawn I have. It's coming from the left side of the engine leaking onto the Exhaust plate.

I cant tell if it's the head or valve cover, but with only 40 hours on the mower I hope it just the valve cover. Anyone else have these issues ?

I'm thinking you should take it to an authorized Toro Dealer for the warranty repair. This should be FREE.

clean the area around the leak
Dust it with spray on talcum powder ( yes I am serious )
Check in the morning and the leak should be cleary visible.
If not run the engine for a few minutes.
Take some photos then send a complaint to Kohlers customer service.
Make sure you mention the 150 mile round trip, nicely so you want to make sure the "repair" lasts more than 20 minutes.
Also send a copy to your consummer advocate be nice .
A follow up from the government makes a big difference in how seriously Kohler will take your problem.
Remember the USA has anti- lemon laws and Kohler are legally obliged to replace your engine or refund you if it can not be fixed.
