Hey guys!
I have a Homemade wood splitter with a Kohler K181 8HP motor. It's old and tired. There's always something going wrong and I'm sick of spending time I don't have trying to band aid it. Can someone suggest an inexpensive straight replacement with minimal retro fitting?

Thanks!

Marty,
The easiest thing to do is to contact some one like Small Engine Services and ask them what is the cheapest replacement engine that will mechanically fit.
AFAIK they have it on spreadsheets so all you are looking for is an engine with the same length & diameter PTO shaft which is the same height from the bottom or slightly smaller so you can pack it up.
If the Kohler is on a moving plate for belt adjustment purposes then you are laughing because any engine with the same length PTO will go in.
Controls can always be adapted it is only the mechanical dimensions that are important.
Lots of superceeded engines can go dow to 1/2 price so worth while the hassel of drillig a few holes.
