Hi All , First off: Kohler CV675S Spec 75544 Serial 3130209491 Mounted on Craftsman GT 3000.
After 23 years, It blew a head gasket. What I’m looking for is part numbers for the current Head gasket kit with all other associated gaskets. If I’m doing one, I’m going to do both. Also, it has plastic valve covers. Have they been updated to metal covers? If so, I will need the current part number for them. Not being a professional, I don’t want to guess at the parts I’m getting. I’m hoping the Pro's can set me straight. Thanks in advance , Matt.

Head gasket kit is 24 841 02-S will need 2 kits to do both heads even though each kit will come with gaskets to replace both exhaust and intake gaskets. And it looks like the plastic covers are the latest and greatest with updated kits that replace the metal covers with the plastic O ring sealed covers.

Stay with the composite plastic covers, if possible, they keep the engine heat load down better than metal ones.

Research the bolt torque information or go on Ebay and buy the appropriate repair CD or manual for this engine. Having the tightening specs is vital for a lasting repair. A good torque wrench can be purchased at most parts stores or Harbor Freight if you have one in the area.

Resurface the head using 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper and a tempered glass tabletop if possible. Any good-tempered glass will do if you have it. Do not use window glass, to dangerous.

A 3x3x1 level hardwood block with 400 grit is ideal for lightly resurfacing the engine block to head surface. Don't be aggressive and clean everything really well after sanding.
