Any engine you feel like with the same 1" pto shaft and alternator of the same size or larger if you have an electric clutch.
In the past I have had mixed luck with drilling the tip of the crack and filling it with an aluminium repair putty.
I have now got an oxy welding technique down pat & can usually pull it off.
Down here we are looking at $ 2500 to replace the engine + labour.
Staying with Kohler will be the easiest as it is a plug & play swap
Fitting a B & S will require new control wires and some rewiring
