Kohler CV22 fuel pump squirting through screen

I replaced the fuel pump on my CV22 because it was squirting through the brass "screen". The new one does it, too.

It's gasoline, but I think there's oil mixed in, too. The engine gets oil all over it, so does my leg. It seems to be using a lot of gas, too.

I did a search, and there are some YT videos that say oil coming out of the screen means there's a blown head gasket, but the video shows oil dripping out of the screen, not squirting. Mine I think is mostly gas.

What would cause both gas and oil to come out of the pump screen?

Pull the dipstick and check the oil level and see if it smells like gas. Gas in the oil means carb repair time because the float valve is leaking

I had a scag with a Kawasaki engine that done this. Like ILENGINE said about the inlet valve, mine was leaking and overflowing out of carb through intake into crankcase.

Thanks, guys. Since I'll be changing the head gasket, I'll mess with the carb while it's off.

What would cause both gas and oil to come out of the pump screen?

The fuel pump is very simple
There are the inlets & outlets that are on opposite sides.
One or the other will have a check valve on is so fuel can only go one way
The fitting at the top gets impulses from the crankcase that blows or sucks on a diaphragm that does the pumping.
There is usually a very light spring on the diaphragm because the suck is weaker than the blow.
The gauze filter is there to allow the air on the other side of the diaphragm to be expelled.
If fuel is coming from the filter then either the diaphragm is ruptured or the fuel line is connect to top where the impulse line should go,
