Kohler Courage 20HP Single New Short Block, Now Smokes On Start Up

Recently at 150 hours my Cub Cadet LT1045 Kohler 20hp Courage single cyl. went to meet its maker (top cover came loose). I replaced the blown up short block with a new unit and even though the engine runs fine it smokes on start up for about 3 to 4 minutes. after that there are no issues. When I replaced the short block I inspected the head and it appeared ok, I did not see any valve stem seals, should there be any on this engine?
 
A light blue smoke would indicate oil, please post model and spec numbers. I suspect that the rings may not be seated properly, but it could be a couple different things. Need to look at engine before offering suggestions.
