Hi, I have a 2006 Ferris is2000z with a 27hp kohler cv740 has less than 1400 hrs it fouls one plug. Does anyone have an experience with this engine? Is it worth building? Should I do a swap to another brand engine? If so what ? I have another mower that runs great with a 25hp cv740 so idk let me know what you think thank you

Well you could start by going up a heat grade or two with the plug.
Then you might look to the cause.
A leaking head gasket can cause the plugs to foul and $ 30 is a lot cheaper than $ 1300

Blown head gasket on that cylinder. 24 841 04-s head gasket. You are lucky to get that many hours out of it before it blew the head gasket. Don't just do one head do them both while You are in it that deep. The CV-Twin is a great engine. They run forever once they fixed the head gasket problem. Took them over 20 years but they finally put a fire ring around the cylinder area and cured the problem. I have a friend that has 8,000 hours on one and is still running strong. You will need to plane the heads to make sure they are flat.

I had the heads rebuilt and new kohler head gaskets and all other gaskets replaced and it didn’t help, it fouls the plug in minutes. I think I’m going to have it bored and just build it, if yuns think it’s worth putting money into, I checked on installing a 26hp vanguard but they are back ordered $1400

While you were in there, did you replace the breather gasket?

Does it smoke and if so what color smoke? Post model spec and serial no. Briggs Vanguard is their best engine can't say you would go wrong with it.

No I didn’t , The plug after 2 hrs running, but no mosquitoes.

That doesn’t look too good.

No sticker on the engine but I think it’s Cv740-0043 , or cv740-3112 mine has the hd air cleaner
