Kobota G-18 Diesel lawn tractor Electrical problem

When I turn on key it would do a clicking sound which is normal, then I would hold key till glow plugs light went out and the proceed to start, and it worked.

I noticed with the key turned off I could here that clicking one in a while when tractor was not in use! Then I started having trouble getting the starter to kick in, I just kept re trying the key and it would eventually start. Now I have to short out the solenoid with a screwdriver to start it.

I have no lights or gauges working on the dash. I checked all the fuses and did all the electrical plugs with electrical contact lube and made no difference.

Can someone tell me what to do to correct this problem, also I can't get the ignition switch out of the dash, the hold down nut is off but it won't push out of the dash????

I'm thinking that it could be a not proper ground, has anyone had this problem?

Thanks for any help offered.

Paul

Can't be the solioid or it wouldn't start when it is shorted with screwdriver, plus the dash lights and gauges should still be working and they are not

Its just like any electrical problem. I find my first step is try to find a wiring diagram. I just don't see how this would be repairable by someone on this forum giving the right answer other then just a wild guess. I know you are hoping someone else had the same problem and will give you the answer to the problem. The only thing you can do without a wiring diagram is check all fuses, connections or broken wires. Hope you the best of luck on this because that is what you will need.

Okay so I resolved the problem myself, it was a bad ground. I ran a ground wire from the top starter mounting bolt to the frame, baciclly grounding the motor to the frame, everything works now! Go figure!

Hope this helps someone else down the road!
