Hi all,

I have a Briggs and Stratton 550 series (158cc) 4 stroke engine on a Victa mower. Recently the mower has not been shutting off when I turn the lever to stop. If I reached down and turned the swivel with my hand it would sometimes shut off but other times not. I figured it was due to poor contact with the kill switch located under the swivel plate. I have just installed a manual killswitch made from a marine killswitch. It is now killing every time I flick the switch, but the mower is now revving high. Why is this? what has my alteration done? How can I rectify it? I thought it was as simple as no earth = mower runs, earthed coil wire = mower dies. How is RPM regulated??? obviously I have bypassed this regulation......

Photo 3.Swivel plate - old killswitch contact point is that little vertical piece protruding up towards the back of the base plate.

Photo 4. Wire from Coil? which I have connected to the new killswitch on the handle (see pic 2)

Ok so I had another look at it......... The new earthing wire was up against the governor pushing it to rev harder. I rerouted the wire and it is perfect!
