Key won't turn in ignition

My battery was dead, unable to get it started at least. I took it out and put in on a trickle charger. Today when I went to put it back in I cannot even get the key to turn? It like its the wrong key?
Will it not allow it to turn if the battery is dead? or is there something I need to do?

Make the plastic cover is not allowing the key to go all the in. If you have a spare try it without the cover if not take it out and give it a go and see what happens

if you have the right key might push it in slightly and turn it to the right, if you don't know if you have the right key go to your dealer and get one.
