Kawasaki negative charge

My Kawasaki mounted on a Cub Cadet is not charging the battery. I'm getting 29-30V AC into the regulator, but it's only showing -2.86V DC coming out!
I replaced the regulator but still getting same voltage numbers. Why am I getting the negative number going to the battery? The battery is fully charged by a trickle charger so I can mow my lawn weekly.

Polarity issue, flip your meter probes.

Here is a question. With the ignition in run position and the engine not running is the battery voltage present at the B+ terminal of the regulator? IF not that would explain the negative at the B+ terminal with the engine running.

where are you measuring between and what are the conditions? Measure between the two battery terminals. If it is still 2.86V then you may have reversed polarity in the battery, regulator or meter.
