Mowing along everything is fine mower shuts off .Cranks back up but when you take the parking brake off or the blade PTO engine shuts off dragged back to shop let it set overnight went out checked fuses ok checked fuel supply ok looked for disconnected wires to safety solinoids ok .tried to crank and smoke billows from exhaust cut it off checked oil its now high smelled oil and the high was gas in it.My mystery question is can the seat and needle I know can cause gas entering in crankcase but is there a sensor in crankcase that would tell it too much oil and shut it off before it started smoking are they related or just a fluke?

Do you believe fixing the fuel in crankcase will fix the sudden shut down and shut off of machine? It has a nikkii carb so there is no seat im planning on just putting new fuel float needle and fuel pump just in case diaphragm in pump is bad oter then that ill be stumped. And thanks for your reply on the sensor in crankcae

Absolutely yes, it will fix your problem of gas in oil. Your engine may have an oil pressure sending unit located in close proximity to oil filter, its purpose is to shut down engine if oil pressure becomes too low, thus saving engine.

I agree with Mark, fix the problems. Also make sure air filter is clean.

How long did you run it with gas in the oil? If for very long, your connecting rod bearings could be shot. I hate to say this, but I have seen this happen three times with my neighbors' mowers (in fact, I just took apart one of the engines with my kids to show them what is inside).

As a result of this, I now add a manual fuel line shutoff valve to every mower with the tank above the carburetor bowl.
