John Deere X300 solenoid

I have a x300 and the solenoid is bad. I took it off but I cant seem to find the correct part number
for my particular lawn mower. I can't use a universal one because of the way the bracket fits on the mower. Thanks in advance.

As I recall the last starter solenoid I replaced on a Kawasaki the solenoid was built onto the starter but replaceable. Is that what you have? If not it just seems you could adapt a universal solenoid to work. All a solenoid is, is a heavy duty electric switch. Look in a auto parts store and they will have different styles. But if it is built onto the starter that is what you will have to replace it with and the last one I bought was like 90 dollars.

Thanks for the fast response. It's definitely not built onto the starter. I am going to go to the closest auto parts store and see
what they have. I appreciate the help!

Well the style of solenoid that you have is pretty basic, why do you think that it is bad?

The only real differences in them is the number of posts, shape and position of the bracket not that important.

Fish is right, The solenoid with three terminals ground to the bracket and the four wire solenoid takes a wire ground.

Yeah, this time of year is pretty much the same. Guy comes in and wants a solenoid, later that day, he comes in for a keyswitch,
maybe later, a battery, safety switch, etc...

My one boss @ 12 years ago would get real mad if I tried to help them figure out what they needed, he would rather I sold the non-returnable parts, but I always had my multi-meter up at the parts counter so I could test their switches/etc.

I like to think that they trusted me for saving them money, but probably no.... I know better.....

This is all about trouble shooting electrical problems. They post a problem and live 1000 miles away and think they can get a answer. You need a wiring diagram and a multi- meter and know how to use them, without it its just a guess. So just start replacing them non-returnable parts and hope for the best. Then it gets down to what would of been cheaper, bring it to someone who knows what they are doing or replace non-returnable parts?

Yeah, folks come here for cheap, free responses. The "Experts" here are lined up anxious to help them, so there will be friction.

But with all said and done, we are clubbing each other to try and help some goomer fix his mower for free.

So I joke around quite a bit, the "experts" here need to lighten up a tad.....

the solenoid I gave to a guy at work the other day had two optional mounting brackets,im still trying to wrap my head around the exaust ice,im slow I know.lol

Fish had a post that said if you use Amsoil your exhaust system would get ice in it and destroy the engine. I think I told him at the time BS. He was just making a funny.
