Could be a belt going bad or possibly a pulley. Could be any number of things, what kind or make of mower are we talking about. A little more detail would be helpful.

Check your deck spindles to make sure the bearings feel tight and also check the bolts holding them onto the deck they can get lose. You might just need to bite the bullet and take it into a repair shop.
