John Deere L100 Engine issue

Good morning,
I ran my L100 the other day for about 4 minutes and it shut itself off. I replaced the battery because the geniuses at O'reillys said it was bad. Also replaced the spark plugs. Checked the oil and it is very low. That is my fault for not checking regularly. Now the engine wont turn over. You can hear the starter trying to engage. The output shaft underneath the machine will not move. Did I cause the engine to seize? What is the fix for this?

Try and turn the engine over by hand if its easy to turn then try some jumper cables from your car to your mower.

I replaced the battery. No issues with power. It seems as if the flywheel won't move and the output shaft to the deck belt won't turn by hand either.

ok next step take the plugs out of it and see if it will turn over by hand or even with the starter if not then it sounds like it could be locked up

That may be the part I'm confused about. How do you turn it over by hand? Remove the spark plug first?

Try turning the fly wheel on top of the engine. Should be a black cover made of plastic and take the spark plug out first

Do i need to take the cover off to access the flywheel? I wasn't able to move the flywheel where the teeth are located my hand the other night but the spark plug was in still.

No you do not need to remove the cover.
Take out the plug and make sure the pto is off

Ok. Out of ignorance, what does the spark plug do in this situation? Why do you have to remove it?

With the plug out you have no resistance from compression

That was it. I was able to move it ad immediately it cranked up with the spark plug back in it. Thanks so much. Saved me a lot of money!!!!!!
