John Deere LA 105. After driving for a couple minutes something at or near the brake disk starts smoking like it's fixing to burst into flames. Is the brake pads stuck maybe? Thank you if someone can help.
Sniff sniff, smells like rubber ?
most likely the belt.
Belt slipping can be because the brake is binding.
Check the brake by releasing the bypass valve and try pushing the mower.
if one wheel locks up or you can not push it the brake is locked on
External brakes do get clogged with debris, particularly if you mulch.
the belt is not smoking. The smoke comes from the brake disk. I took it off and switched the brake shoes around and it has quit smoking so far. I think one disk pad was forced against the disk some how maybe dirt or something behind the pad. Thanks for your reply.
Some dry lube ( Tri-flow is good ) on the disc splines works wonders and a touch of white lithium on the pivot arm and the two pins does not hurt either.
Get the rear wheels off the ground and check the balance between the brake & the clutch.
Some times it goes out of adjustment so the drive belt has fully taken up before the brake has released.
So one of them has to give
For some weird reason it never seems to go the other way.
