WELCOME to these Forums....
You can mount the relay any place that is convenient... and is close enough for the wiring to reach...
That relay is placed in the circuit to allow Full voltage application to the starter solenoid.
With the various 'safety' interlocks on the starting circuit you "can" have enough voltage drop that the solenoid will only give you a 'click' when trying to start.... that kit fixes the problem.
Any good, common SPST normally open relay will work.
1.The wire going to the solenoid coil is removed and connected to the new relay coil.
2.The other side of that relay's coil needs to be connected to a good Ground.
3. Run a wire From 12v positive available at the starter solenoid. (Always hot large terminal) connect to either spade of the New relay normally open contacts.
4. Run a wire from the other normally open contact on that New relay, to the point you disconnected the wire from the starter solenoid.
Now when you turn the key to start... You are actuating the New relay... and That New Relay is applying a Full 12 volts to the starter solenoid coil.
It is actually easier to do, than it is trying to describe... :smile:KennyV
BTW the John Deere kit # is: AM107421... You get a relay and the wiring... But for about a tenth the price you can make your own using a relay and a little wiring... :smile:KennyV
