John Deere 240 w/ Kawasaki FC420V 14hp vs John Deere 260 w/Kawasaki FC 540V 17hp

Question? Are both engines interchangeable without any modifications? I'm thinking of purchasing a spare engine for my JD 240. I'm wondering if the FC 540V engine from a JD 260 will fit on my JD 240 without any jury rigging.

Usually they will drop right in.
The only things that can be different will be the electrical plug which is specified by the mower company to suit their loom and the control plate.
All control plates mount on the same centers so the will swap from one engine to the other as will the alternator .
There is very little difference between the 2 engines and you will not notice any difference when mowing
