The battery light being on tells you its not charging the battery. That's why its on there. Seeing you have john burns on your title I take it you are talking about a John Deere? If so it should have a fuse that go's to the voltage regulator, check it. Or is that your name?

Might be his name as I have seen a few folks do for some reason. He lists Cub Cadet under his member name on the left.

Yes I did see that, but it helps to have a little more information then Cub Cadet. They have only made Cub Cadet from 1960 till now. Yes still check for a blown fuse.

I'm sorry i wasn't specific in my question about my cub cadet sltx 1054vt riding mower
My problem is as follows: the battery light comes on when i engage the pto switch, i have installed a new battery, and i don't know what to check next. Can you help me?

Sounds to me like your charging system is very weak. It can put the battery light out without any load but the electrical load of the clutch is too much.

Does it do the same thing when you turn on the lights?
