Hey Gents,

JD X300, Kawasaki 17 hp FH491V

Need help please with ideas to fix the "hunting" of the govenor/throttle. Initial problem was that mower just stopped at end of mowing and couldn't start. So I replaced the Carb, fuel pump, fuel filter. Had prior replaced coil packs.

Now it starts and runs but "hunts", i.e. govenor won't settle down throttle. ANy ideas for me to try?

Thank you all in advance!

Gary

Adjust the pilot screw "Turning the pilot screw (idle mixture screw) out (counterclockwise) enriches the mixture; turning it in (clockwise) leans the mixture."

Thank you but this model carb does not have a mixture adjustment to my knowledge. I wish it did.

If you know it does, please send me a picture because it is NOT obvious where the mixture screw is located on the carb.

Thank you very much for trying to help me. I really appreciate it.

It it hasn't got one then give the carb and good clean, even doe its a new one the problem will be the carb, check out the videos on youtube there are a lot on there about the problem you have and will show you what you need to do better then we can do here.

Pinch the fuel tank off your push mower, fill it and hook it up to the fuel pump.
Get someone to start the engine, let it warm up then engage the blades.
If the hunting goes away, clean out the fuel tank and replace the fuel lines between the tank & the fuel pump.
If you mower has 2 tanks, pull the tank switch off and give it a clean as well.
Debris enters the tank and grass clippings do not break down in fuel, they become translucent and act like little pieces of plastic blocking off the fuel outlet.

Get some bulk WD 40 in a trigger pack, not a spray can ( better value that way in any case )
with the engine running liberally spray all around the engine side of the carb and the manifold.
Engine speed changes / white smoke = air leak
