JD Snow Blower 1032 Oil leak

Hi friends..
My JD 1032 snowblower is blowing oil out the Electric starter hole...I'm in serious dodo...I have not pulled off the Blower Housing where the recoil and flywheel is located...is there an oil line or plug located behind this Housing. Any help would be great...:confused3:

I'd say that the oil seal under the flywheel is the cause. Remove the flywheel and you should be able to see where it is coming from.

Not too bad of a seal to replace. I drill a couple of small holes in the seal and install a sheet metal screw in the seal to pull the old seal out. Then just tap the new one in.

Thanks I was able to pull up my parts list and saw where it is located..would you think the gasket would have to be replaced to? Is that hard to do?

When you said square seal that is just something I just couldn't picture in my mine. The only thing I really could think maybe gasket or a square ring seal. The seal we are talking about is a round lip style seal that seals the case to the crankshaft that spins. Marion NY as a small town about 20 miles east of Rochester NY. Isn't Kingston in the south eastern part of the state or are you talking about Kingston Canada which I live about a 100 miles from?

Is it a Tecumseh engine? The seal is under the flywheel which it would help to have a flywheel puller. To me its easy but I have done this job before . If you have never did anything like this before maybe visit the local library and read a book on small engine repair would help you. Getting out the old seal can be a little tricky sometimes.. Another thing is are we just making a guess on this oil leak as to what is leaking?? I would say the first thing to do is find out where the oil is coming from. To do this clean up all the old oil and then run the engine because I have found that a oil leak can travel.
Never heard of Mt. Marion so I will have to look it up.

Yes on the Tecumseh 10 hp...Hmm flywheel puller..have to see about that I'm hoping my friend who knows more about small engine can help me..I know old cars better...Yes on the guess where the leak is..I thought maybe I over filled the oil when I did the oil change and that was why the oil was coming out..but when I check the dip stick there was just a trace of oil on the stick...it is kind of strange I don't see the oil leak when running the engine..I only happen to see it due to the electric started coming loose. Then I saw a mist of oil coming out of the hole where the electric started fits into the flywheel.
Now I live in Wallkill, NY south of Kingston about 25 miles...

Is that your car in your Avatar? It looks GM, maybe a Buick? When I was younger I was more into the old cars and still own a 1935 Ford Pickup that I restored years ago now. I also had a 1962 VW which I sold last year. I always wanted a early 50's Chevy pick-up but never found one. I am in a family that is into restoring old farm tractors and dozers now.
Yes first thing, just find where its leaking oil from. That can be a job in its self seeing how oil travels.

Yes that is my 1939 Chevy Master Deluxe..I restored it over many years with the help of my grandfather who own a bodyshop..It is my first car and I still have it..I got it when it was 15 and paid $75 for it...it needed lots of work and parts..it was kind of like my snowblower it ran but you needed to have the oil handy. I'm in the process of restore my Dad's 1966 ford F100 that he gave me back in 1987..getting it ready for the paint shop..had to do some mechanical stuff on it first...
Yea I will have to check the leak..I hope it is not a crack somewhere...I will use it a little today being we have a storm here but keep a close eye on the oil...we got good weather coming so I will take it apart to see if I can trace the leak....Have a Merry..and thanks so much for your help...

That brings me back to my younger years. My first new vehicle was a 1962 Ford F100 pickup 6 cylinder three speed transmission painted two tone green and white. I added white wall tires and a white tonneau over the pick up bed. I sure can remember a lot of pride in that truck till I got married and needed a car.

So cool...while doing some more work on my 39 my parents gave me their old 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 it was little more reliable while going to College...well I was able to use the snow blower for about and hour. Caught it time before all the oil was gone. I got to do it one more time before I take it apart..sure looks like a big job..I think I have to take the handles off to get the housing off...:confused2:

I checked my local JD parts provider..they are tell me that the gasket is obsolete..but they can get the seal...I'll have to try to dive into tomorrow..wish me luck...

Working on old cars or what ever, a skill well learned is making your own gaskets. You make them with a ball peen hammer. You can buy the gasket material from any auto parts store of different material and thickness. Its a skill my father taught me when living on the farm, but I will bet you can find something on it someplace.

Yes it will, my puller has pulled more harmonic balancers then flywheels in its life time.

We found the leak...I did not realize that one of the bottom bolts that hold on the electric start went thru into the Oil case. The bolt threads are shot so I left out the bolt and will repair it with a Helicoil
Well we took the housing off and clean everything and found nothing..so put everything back together and started it up. My friend said here's the problem..oil was blowing out of the bolt hole....
so I'm wait to get the Helicoil repair kit and will fix the problem :cool2:

This is why I kept telling to you find the oil leak first. You didn't need the seals and gaskets.. I think the last Helicoil kit I bought was around 35 dollars and it include everything you need to install the helicoil like the tap, drill and several coils.
