Would appreciate help advise. JD LT166 won't start. Ne Battery, new solenoid, when I turn the key, I get "clicking" from the solenoid, but starter doesn't turn at all. I've cleaned and made sure all connections are solid.

Any advise where nest to look at would be appreciated.

Stuck flywheel on started?

Try turning the flywheel by hand on top to see if it is free. Push down on the screen and turn. It sounds like you have a bad battery. Can you take a voltage reading. If it is new should have a minimum of 12.6V. If you have a charger try jumping it. Could be the starter, but won't know with out more info. Also, if you can go directly to the starter from the battery with a single jumper cable.

flywheel is free, moved it counter clockwise with relative ease. I just removed the started and bench tested it (jumped it from a battery), starter works fine, spins freely. cleaned reconnected everything, still, when I depress the brake, turn the key, all I get is "clicking" from the solenoid - doesn't seem to be getting power to the battery. Battery is new, 2 days old. Stumped.

Would a safety switch that is bad still allow the solenoid to click?

Any help would be appreciated. Grass starting to grow here Maryland.

Check all cables and ALL connections

checked all, all appear good. Just jumped the starter directly from the battery to the hot lead on the starter, started right up. Solenoid is not getting power to the starter for some reason. Must be a short somewhere. Just finished cutting lawn. Once i stopped mower, same issue, won't start, solenoid just clicks.

Will try to isolate the short. Wonder if it could be the cable from the solenoid to the starter. Never seem that cable go bad though.

Check to seeing your BLADES PTO is engaged - common issue when doing road service calls " it won't start just clicks" push into PTO and fires right up ..... Red faced owner

Check to see if you have 12V at the small terminal of the solenoid when you turn the key to the start position. If yes, replace the solenoid. If no, check the key switch. If you know the switch is good, then one of the safety switches is causing the problem.
