We own a mid 90's model 455 which has been a great machine however this past week the front PTO failed to operate and the PTO light for the front ( mower deck ) pto did not come on when the switch was raised in the on position. The rear PTO was on and working. However, this evening while I was poking around trying to figure things out I noticed that the rear PTO light does not come on nor does the PTO spin.
I assume this is an electrically related problem and am just trying to fighure out where to start first.......any help is apprrciated.
If you mean similar to a farm tractor where you must engage the PTO....the answer is no. Both PTO's are triggered by a switch on the instrument panel. You pull up to engage and push in to disengage. Three days ago I had the rear PTO still coming on but after unplugging the switch, checking wires etc.. it does not come on now. ( I did not leave anything open....basicaly one switch and tracing wires).
That is why i assume it is an electrical issue such as a circuit board, wire, switch something along those lines.
There is a hydraulic clutch pack in the transaxle...
A solenoid on top towards the rear, Metal thing with a plastic nut and one wire on it... Check that wire for 12 volts when you have the PTO on (with someone in the seat)....
