JD 285 key will not start tractor

I took my mower deck off my 285 and now the tractor will not start with the key. I can jump the starter and it starts right up. Is there a safety switch that may cause this issue. It was fine until I took the deck off. I also replaced the drive belt

There is no connection between the deck & the cranking system
There are switches under the floor that can be dislodged .
JD went to great expense to produce the best repair manual on the planet
If you own a J D and don't own the manual then frankly you are a penny pinching fool
