I was wondering if anyone here could help me out. I have a JD 245 that will for some reason start running really rough as I am mowing and then sputter until it dies. I have learned that if I shut the mower down and restart everything before it actually dies it will fire up and then run fine for a while. This usually happens at least once or twice during my 1.5 hour mow session. Sometimes it won't do it all. I have basically checked and replaced everything on this mower in the last three years (voltage reg, magnetic PTO clutch, starter switch, battery, battery terminals, and the igniter (5 years ago). I have also noticed that it seems to do this more when it's really hot out. I am wondering if it's an electrical issue. Thank.

Check the gas cap vent.

The vent is free and clear. I am puzzled. I can usually figure these things out. This issue is so sporadic that I can't get a handle on it. I also wondered about debris in the carb, but it runs so well I just can't see that. I'd like to take the carb apart just to check it over but JD wants an arm and leg for a rebuild kit.

Order a kit off eBay.
