I bought my 14SB in 1992 and it's been a great mower. I snagged the blade control cable on a fence and pulled it out of the plastic housing. When I took the housing apart the large spring fell out. I was able to put the cable back in place, but, the safety bail does not spring back when the clutch disengages. I'm not sure how the spring engages the bail. Also, it appears that the metal pawl that locks the control lever forward should have a small spring at the rear (it must have gone flying). I've looked at the service manual available here but, it doesn't detail the inside of the BBC Control. Can anyone advise the procedure for putting this BBC Control back together correctly? The mower works but, without the designed safety feature. I don't think it's worth the $60 to just replace the BBC as the manual recommends.
Thanks,
Bob

Since I hadn't heard from any of the experts on this forum I decided to just tear into the control and try every possible configuration until I found the correct assembly. I used a spring from a ball point pen to replace the missing spring on the release. Thanks anyway.

Hey Bob -

I just bought a new blade brake clutch for my JD 14sb, and the thing flew apart when i pulled it off. I'm trying to put the thing back together - specifically, where this piece goes. Any thoughts? I've searched the internet high and low looking for a diagram on how to piece this back together. I'm so frustrated!
