J D LX172 Drive belt

Replaced transmission drive belt, now clutch won't disengage fully. Used OEM belt, all springs and pulleys seem ok, just won't fully release belt tension. Can belt be stretched, just a bit would probably do the trick?

Usual reason for that is routing the belt the wrong way through the clutching pulleys
