is my engine locked up?

My 12.5 briggs engine won't spin but half a turn before feeling like its jammed up ..I've tried it by hand and either way I turn it is the same thing. It seems as if there is a bolt in there or something, I tried doing it by hand and got it to turn over the full turn about five turns and then it did the same thing. Can somebody help with this? It ran grey until I hit a vine and it shut off.the oil was little low but nothing dangerous to the engine. I race briggs Engines so I'm somewhat fluent about the five hp engines but not the 12.5 .any help will be greatly appreciated!

I'm betting a broken connecting rod, definitely something is not right internally. Post your model numbers and I'll see if I can find you a service manual.

I sure hope not!
I just got this mower delivered to me from where I used to live three hours away to keep from buying one. 289707 is the model number ..

Pull the spark plug out and see of it will turn over

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))

That's a big 10-4 on the balls buddy! Pulled the plug and same thing ..it'll turn bout half way in either direction and stop.but at one time it broke free and turned those several turns. Almost as if a bearing is bad but there's no oil leak

The way I see is it is already broke so take it apart and see what's wrong. Take a few pics as you go so you know how it goes back together.

I think you will find a broke rod

I'm just guessing that this is the right manual, because you only give me one part of the model number. Type and code are the other two parts.

Ya, I'd say its locked. Could be a busted ring. Time for a tear down in any case!

Hello , something else to try before you start stripping out your engine , take your flywheel off and see if the ring of magnets stuck to the underside are still secure as i had one that did this and gave the same problem . Gary
