Is 13 volts too low for charging system?

My battery isn't charging. I charged it with a battery charger and the mower started up and mowed the yard twice. I had to get off the seat to move some debris. When I tried to start it a second time, the battery was dead. I'm getting around 12v with the mower off and 13v with it running. The charging system is enough to keep the mower running. The battery is old (06), so I'm going to have it tested or replaced. From what I've read, the power should be around 14v when running. Is 13v too low to keep the battery charged?

13 volts will keep it charged ... if the battery is in good condition.
Full charged will be slightly over 12 volts...
Depending on the alternator output, you may not have the amp capacity to bring an older battery up.
Have the battery checked, and replace if needed, after all it's going on 9 years old.
Your charging system will likely do fine with a new battery.... KennyV:smile:

If its over 12.6v, which is actually the capacity of a 12v battery, then it must be charging...though I'd prefer to see 14v. I'd replace the battery, it's likely worn out. Also, be sure to remove the three wires from the regulator/rectifyer and refit them as using the charger should have tripped it. This resets it.
