I have a Gravely zero turn with a Kawasaki FX691V engine. I have adjusted the valves and while I was at it wanted to remove the cooling shroud to clean the head fins. The intake air screen that rotates with the fan has hex head screws to hold it on. A metric 3mm is a loose fit and 4mm is too large. A SAE hex key doesn't fit any better. The 3mm hex key just slips in the screw head. I'm looking for a solution to get them out. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have found that sometimes using a torx wrench will grab. Not best way to do it, but sometimes you need to think out of the box.

And you find a hammer and punch very useful in freeing them up too. They do seize so tight it doesn't matter what you use the heads will strip if you don't use a hammer and punch.

Get you an I-Fix-It-Kit. They have a ton of precision ground bits in all kind of unique sizes.

Yup, steel screws in aluminum parts. Dissimilar metals....... Glob on some anti-seize when you get them out.

Carb bowl screws. Dope them up when you clean a carb. Much easier to remove for the next guy. Blade retaining bolts.

You say "Hex head." Is it Torx, Allen, or Star? Look closely and Google them if that means nothing to you. You need the right one for whatever kind of bolt it is.

Soak overnight in Kroil Oil before you start. ☺

I think the screws are 15-25 torque type heads. Should remove them.
