In-Tank Fuel Strainer Wacker G5.6 Generator: Replacement Ideas

Hi All,
I hope I chose the correct section of the forum to post this. If not, I apologize.

I have a Wacker G5.6 generator. The top of the generator is a long, wide fuel tank. Instead of an in-line filter, it has a strainer in the tank. The grommet is cracked and it started dripping fuel when I bumped the fuel line.
The parts (0053577 Bushing & 0088179 Elbow With Strainer) are obsolete.

I have heard of people getting rid of these in-tank in favor of in-line filter. But, I don't have any idea of how to attach a fitting to the 0.515" diameter hole in the bottom of the tank. (Or anywhere else)

And, the hole is where I would not be able to reach into the tank fill neck to attach something from inside.

Ih the chance you've done this, do you have tips or ideas to get me out of this mess?

Google the bushing part number and it will come up. Also goes by BS50, BS60, BS600. The valve said use another part number at one site and when I googled it, this came up. https://www.ebay.com/itm/296303498282 No idea if it will fit. That said, go to James Condon's webpage and send him a message asking about it. He should know what will fit. Thank You Sgkent for helping. I very much appreciate it & don't know why when I searched on line for the part nothing showed up. Thank you also for the links to James Condon. He has quite a lot of interesting things on his You Tube channel.

By chance, I was driving past a lawn & snow equipment dealer today & stopped in.
Without taking a step, the parts counter person reached behind him and got the bushing (grommet) and a new strainer with elbow from the pegboard. I kind of laughed and mentioned that he kept them handy. He looked at me and said "Ethanol!".

The parts are for Oregon. Bushing #07-392 & Elbow With Strainer 07-404 The new elbow has a shut off. (In case anyone stumbles on this in the future and needs them. The grommet is for a 33/64" diameter hole.)

I had to use a tiny bit of Synco Super Lube on the barb of the new elbow to get it through the bushing without excessive force on this 27 year old, plastic gas tank. (Fear of cracking it) Leak checking = OK.


One thing I never understood is how to drain the fuel tank when the pick up strainer and bushing stick 7/8" above the tank floor. It holds 50 cubic inches of fuel. That's a lot (28 ounces) of fuel.

I dislike storing gas in the tank. (Old one was the same. I used to remove the tank to dump the residual. What a chore!)
I'll have to try to find a bulb baster with a flexible tube to draw the left over gasoline out.
