I think I'd like to add a little eye appeal to my lawn area and I'm thinking about incorporating some different ground covers around and about. I'm thinking it would add some color and texture contrast. It would be great to use stuff that could be mowed with the lawn. Any ideas? I live in Detroit.

Low growing junipers might be a good first choice. These babies grow anywhere. Just plant them and leave them alone. You can mass them in a corner of your yard and and plant them in a curved pattern for some immediate impact.

Attractive ones would be evergreen flowering grasses, perennials, English and other ivies, daylilies, vinca, pachysandra, hostas, ferns and other elegant and distinctive ground covers. Some of these you mow, others you couldn't.
