:confused3:I HAVE A CRAFTSMAN 917.255720 10 HP TECUMSEH ENGINE, THE ORIGINAL ENGINE WAS 143.356012, THIS ENGINE HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH 143.406022. THE CARB. IS A 632525 AND I HAVE CLEANED IT 4 TIMES EXCEPT BEHIND THE WELCH PLUGS. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS (I MUST HAVE THE ONLY 1985 TRACTOR 917.255720 IN THE COUNTRY) BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND SOMEONE TO TELL ME HOW TO HOOK UP THE GOVERNOR. THE 1985 YEAR HAS A NEW GOVERNOR SET UP AND I NEED TO KNOW WHAT PARTS AND THE LENGTH OF THE PARTS AND WHAT HOLES EACH OF THOSE GO IN. I HAVE SEEN PHOTOS IN A NUMBER OF TECUMSEH MANUALS AND THEY DON'T TELL THE LENGTH OF THE SPRINGS OR THE LENGTH OF THE SOLID ROD OR RODS AND WHAT HOLES THEY GO IN.I HAVE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET ON A NUMBER OF FORUMS ,YOU TUBE AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING. I AM GOING TO TRY AND SEND SOME PHOTOS OF WHAT I HAVE. THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME.I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS INFO FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS OF AND ON. These photos are all of the new engine the 143.406022

You need to find and post the numbers off of the engine, so we can find out which exact Tecumseh you have, the number will start off with "143."...

But I see that you have said "the original engine" was 143.356012, and the engine was replaced with "143.406022"........

So are we looking at engine 143.406022, or a cobbled together bunch of parts from both?

The 143.406022 is a total replacement engine that I purchased from Sears . Tedws

Then how/why is there any problem?

So was the new replacement engine anywhere in your pics, or did Sears smear all of the old dirty grease and paint all over it? I see one newish carb, am I missing some pics?

No sir I am just not explaining very well about 1997 I broke the reverse chain in the transmission and my wife purchased for me a cub cadet so I parked it in the grage and some time back I got a reverse chain and put it in then I had a few hospital stays which put every thing on hold. The engine was new when I purchased it back before 1997,and because I could not get the transmission to work I parked it again. In the meantime I have misplaced the diagram of the governor so I do not know how to hook it up and also I I have no control with the throttle on the dash and when it rus the RPMs where really high.So the dirt is from where I did use it before the transmission problem. The dates may not be just right but they are close. I trying to get it running I have a use for it now and since I purchased it new in 1985 I thought it would be worth getting it going. Thanks for your help. I am not a good speller. By the way I am 73 years old.

That spring looks like it would go there, but that spring on your engine doesn't look right.....

You need to get the Tecumseh spring, and not the hardware store one....

Here, it took some serious digging through some old books, but this looks like it.

Wow!!!!! We would really need some "thanks" for helping you cobble together your engine, eh???? Or did we not earn the money that you paid for our help?? Sorry it took a few extra days, as I have a business that actually pays me for things like this/that....
I am always on the hate list here, so you will have a lot of "friends"..... But it is good to see that you got it put back together correctly!!!!!

Well, wait a while, he may just yet send you a bunch of P.M.s..... And you can go out and look through a bunch of old Tecumseh books, and find the carb setup he was needing......

He will appreciate it I am sure.....

Unlike you I would not have to look in a book to find it.

Man it really is not as complicated as you make it out to be.

ANSWER TO THREAD #15

Hello, I am writing this message to Mr. Fish, Mr. Fish I am VERY THANKFUL an I appreciate every thing you have done to help me with my problem. However I also am sorry that I sent you 2 or 3 PMs. I did not know that it was out of order to send you PMs. Alsoin thread #14 there is a picture that shows the carb and the governor, however I also have that same picture in several books I have, but if you will notice, and this was what I was looking for IS THE HOLES THAT EACH SPRING OR ROD GOES IN ON THE CARB AND THE GOVERNOR. AND I STILL DON,T KNOW. The other thing is this engine is NOT cobble mess, the only thing I did was take the carb off and forgot how to re-hook the governor. This engine is just like I bought it from SEARS about 15 years ago. I COME TO THIS FORUM HOPEING THAT SOMEONE ON HERE HAS THE KNOWLEDGE AND MEMORY OF WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. I am 73 years old and on social security and can not afford to have this done by a pro.Again I am very thankful for all the help that anyone has given me and Mr. Fish you have done the most thank you.

NAw the reason you won't get much help on this topic, is because there is little if any help online for what you are working on.
So you are at the mercy of old cantankerous old pharts that may have some old books still laying around, and be willing to go out to the garage and look them up.
You will also notice that the other posters actually did anything but say something against me..... Which was/is expected.
Carsacw has never actually helped anyone here, he just makes a lot of posts.

The big problem you have is that you have a Tecumseh engine, and the only real help you will get is from old pharts digging through old books looking for what you need. Carsacw has no idea how to assist you, but he still will make several posts....

If you look at the links that Mechanic Mark posted on the first page of this thread you will find the parts you are looking for. Look at the "Parts Tree" link. I did a quick look at the parts you need and it seems the following are what you are looking for: Part numbers 15, 19, 186 and 207. Each costs less then 4 dollars. Then look at the down loadable manual in the second link and it will show you how to hook up the linkages. Also you can go to YouTube and search for "Cleaning a Tecumseh carb" and there are a number of very detailed videos there, also several that show how to attach the linkages. Search for "Tecumseh carb". Pretty sure you will not be needing to buy a whole new carb, these things are pretty simple to work on.
Good luck and let us know how it all turns out.

Remove the bowl nut/jet and take a pic of it. If it runs on choke means you have some blockages in the carb, and that is the first place to look.
