I got a yth2348 husqvarna mower and the valves were way out of spec. so I readjusted them to .005". It ran for about 30 seconds just fine and went to the same old popping and hard to start. So i went back to adjust them and they were off again. Its on a Intek 23 hp Briggs. Im stumped on why it keeps moving. So if anybody could help me?

Give us the engine numbers so we know what type of valve train you are talking about.

This service manual may be of some help. One thing to check are the valve guides. If they have moved up, you would be able to properly adjust the valve clearance. http://www.comdac.com/literature/generac/0c8221.pdf

Check the rocker studs themselves as I have seen them to get loose and back out. Must be torqued to specs. As far as I know this is 150 in/lbs.

Popping sound may indicate Lean fuel mixture or timing.

popping may also be 1) mechanical decompression if so equipped, 2) sticky valve. 3) head gasket, 4) plug/spark. Where is the pop showing - intake or ex? I also did not check specs against the model but all B&S I have done ( many ) intake and exhaust valve lash are not the same.

it sounded like both where popping but ill try with torquing the valve studs and dialing in the carb. Thanks for all the help. This is the first time I been on a forum and will use it more often

After retorting the studs I would recheck valve clearances.

I just joined today. I bought this mower and I hope to get the heads, rods, gaskets and an aftermarket carb back on this 23 V-twin Intech OHV engine. I posted today and ordered an intake rod, thanks to Star tea giving me some help today. I bought this yth2348 and mowed a little and decided to take it apart after it blew a cloud of smoke. I need a manual. If you can stand the Grass Rats' Garage, you can see some how to at youtube by Tayrl. I had a 2448 I didn't take care and so overworked it. Good luck.
