well can you hold the throttle closed by hand? or hold onto the gov rod and control the rpms from there?

Kind of important questions.....

When the throttle control is up to where max for cutting I can not move the throttle with the gov rod . The only way I can move it is when the throttle control is about half way.

Low idle speed for that engine is 1600 RPM's and high speed is 3200 RPM's.

Thank you Rivets could you guide me on the fact that the slow idle screw and fast idle screw in the bottom of the carb do not do anything to change the RPM .Also where would I get Tac to measure RPMs on a lawn mower engine

Have you read over the section on carb adjustment in the manual I posted, particularly pages 15-16. This is the procedure which I follow. The idle mixture and high speed mixture screws will not change your RPM's very much. Their job is to control the amount of fuel for various speeds. Your idle speed screw controls RPM's at slow speed and a properly set governor. This is covered in the section entitled "Governors and Linkages) in the manual. This explains everything much better than I can. Tachometers for small engines are out their and rather expensive. Best bet if you really want to get one would be to look for one on line. I use one called a VibraTach, but don't recommend it unless you can find one to instruct you how to use it. Electronic one are $$$$ and unless you are in the business not a wise investment. TinyTacs work also.

I would like some one too explain to me, after I just put a bran new carburetor on this engine and get it run I try too run it around the yard a few times, I put in reverse and nothing. I put in every gear and I get nothing. I checked the belt. and how it is routed to make sure it is right and it is. The belt is turning and so are all the pullies. The large pully on the transaxel is also tunring but shifting gears makes no difference.WHAT COULD HAVE GONE WRONG
